Risk and clinical outcomes over time
Survival analysis · risk modelsAn International MedicReS Initiative
A Specialty-Based Consensus Project on Clinical Biostatistics Education in Postgraduate Medical Training
From the realities of clinical research to the collective expertise of medical specialties. Defining clinical biostatistics education together.
Implementation in Türkiye is led by KlinBiS.
The project’s intended scope
01 / A SHARED QUESTION
Clinical research questions, data structures and approaches to generating evidence differ across specialties. Clinical biostatistics education should address these differences on a shared scientific foundation. CORE 2027 aims to define the competencies needed through the experience of the specialties themselves.
Which clinical biostatistics competencies should a specialist physician possess to conduct high-quality clinical research and generate scientific evidence in their own field?
02 / MEDICAL SPECIALTIES
The project aims to identify research needs across 100 scientific fields. The examples below illustrate how specialty-specific questions can inform a shared framework; the final list of fields and competency sets will be shaped through the consensus process.
Risk and clinical outcomes over time
Survival analysis · risk modelsTreatment response and survival
Endpoint selection · treatment effectsGrowth, development and follow-up
Repeated measures · age-specific dataComparing outcomes of interventions
Confounding · outcomes researchMeasuring clinical change reliably
Scales · measurement validityEvaluating diagnostic evidence
Diagnostic accuracy · interobserver agreement03 / SCIENTIFIC METHOD
A five-stage process aims to translate specialty contributions into a competency framework using a Modified Delphi approach.
Research contexts and the scope of each field are identified.
Clinical experience and methodological expertise address a shared question.
Three rounds of independent assessment, structured feedback and reassessment are conducted.
Priority clinical biostatistics competencies are defined for each field.
The common core and specialty-specific sets are integrated.

04 / SCIENTIFIC PARTICIPATION
We aim to bring together the research experience of medical specialties through contributions from approximately 300 scientists. Bring your field’s questions, methodological challenges and educational needs into the process.
Join CORE 2027 To participate, use the existing KlinBiS Network form.05 / COMPETENCY STRUCTURE
A shared scientific foundation is complemented by competencies that reflect research questions, data types and clinical decision-making contexts. The topics below illustrate the proposed structure; the final content will emerge from the consensus process.
A shared scientific foundation + the research reality of each specialty

07 / IN THE AGE OF AI
Artificial intelligence can accelerate research and analysis. Yet formulating the right question, evaluating study design, examining assumptions and interpreting findings in clinical context require scientific competence. CORE 2027 aims to establish an educational framework that sustains this responsibility beyond the use of any particular tool.
08 / ROADMAP
Planned scientific process
Defining specialties and establishing scientific panels.
Three rounds of assessment, feedback and competency development.
The first scientific findings are planned to be shared.
